We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist to join ABS Biotechnologies GmbH. Our mission is to use next-generation stem cell technology for rigorous screening of new drug compounds. This prevents exposing patients to harmful side effects.
This position is primarily laboratory based.
Your Role
You will be actively involved in culturing human pluripotent stem cells and cardiac differentiation
Quality control and banking for research use.
Writing and reviewing SOPs, study protocols, and reports.
Act as a „superuser” in training others
Inventory management
Essential requirements
Minimum: B.S. in the field of Biological Sciences.
Experience in cell biology laboratory/mammalian cell culture techniques.
Interest in high-throughput screening and ability to troubleshoot complicated laboratory processes
Experience in basic molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA extractions, gel electrophoresis, PCR) and microscopy.
Experience in technical writing such as protocols and reports.
Ability to train and develop others in scientific techniques
High attention to detail and good record-keeping
Ability to organise and schedule own work
Experience in collaborating with others, desire to learn new technical skills and effectively working in teams
Proficiency in verbal as well as written English and good communication skills.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Experience with stem cell culture is beneficial

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist (Full time; 40 hours per week) to join ABS Biotechnologies GmbH, an Austrian-based Startup. Our mission is to use next-generation stem cell technology for rigorous screening of new drug compounds. This prevents exposing patients to harmful side effects.
Responsibilities:
iPSC Culture and Maintenance:
Establish and maintain high-quality iPSC lines, ensuring proper culture conditions, media formulation, and passaging techniques.
Perform routine cell culture work, including expansion, cryopreservation, and thawing of iPSCs.
Optimise protocols for long-term storage and banking of iPSC lines.
Gene Editing (CRISPR/Cas9):
Utilise CRISPR/Cas9 technology to introduce targeted genetic modifications into iPSCs.
Design and construct CRISPR/Cas9 vectors and guide RNAs for gene editing experiments.
Optimise delivery methods for CRISPR/Cas9 components (e.g., transfection, viral transduction).
Validate gene editing events using techniques like PCR, sequencing, and Western blotting.
Leadership:
Lead iPSC-based research projects, defining strategies, timelines, and experimental plans.
Analyse and interpret experimental data, prepare reports, and communicate findings to project teams and stakeholders.
Train and mentor technical staff in iPSC culture, differentiation, and gene editing methodologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cardiovascular scientists, to integrate iPSC-derived cells into diverse research workflows.
Contribute to intellectual property evaluation, drafting, and protection as required.
Support grant writing and funding applications to secure additional resources.
Represent ABS Biotechnologies at scientific and investor meetings to enhance the company’s profile
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
Identify and resolve technical challenges related to iPSC culture, differentiation, and gene editing.
Develop and implement solutions to improve experimental efficiency and data quality.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in iPSC technology and incorporate new techniques into research.
Qualifications:
Education:
A Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field is typically required.
Experience:
Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in human iPSC culture, differentiation, and gene editing is essential.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in cell culture techniques for iPSCs.
Expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and related molecular biology techniques.
Experience with cell-based assays, including flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, and qPCR.
Familiarity with techniques for characterising iPSC pluripotency and differentiation.
Draft technical protocols in alignment with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
